The Samsung Galaxy Note 22 will be Samsung's next flagship note lineup. Samsung has said it will launch the Galaxy Note 22 Ultra next year. But there are some developments that have made people skeptical. In this post, let me clear up some things about the future of the Galaxy Note 22 and the Galaxy Note in general. Samsung has already given reasons why it did not launch the Galaxy Note 21 this year. This was due to the lack of chips and the overlap of features with the Galaxy S21 Ultra. Samsung said it would bring back the notes next year.

So Samsung has a mixed year in 2021. Their main flagships the Galaxy S21 series reportedly saw lower sales despite the cheaper prices. But their foldable Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3 are a commercial success based on the pent-up demand they are experiencing right now. But there's one product line that went missing this year, and it's the Galaxy Note. Samsung already said the reason they didn't launch the Galaxy Note 21 was because of the chip shortage and the overlap of features with the Galaxy S21 Ultra. Samsung said they will bring back the Note next year. With that said, Ice Universe tweeted this out a few days ago saying that Samsung has recently renewed its trademarks for a variety of names including the Galaxy S, Galaxy Z, Galaxy M, and Galaxy A series. The notable exception here is the Galaxy Note series. This led many people including some YouTubers and websites to believe that we won't see a Galaxy Note 22 or Note 23 in the future basically saying that the Galaxy Note line has officially... But don't worry this whole trademark thing is greatly exaggerated. You see the trademark for the Galaxy Note was indeed not renewed but there's a reason for that and it's that it never expired in the first place. Samsung filed the Galaxy Note trademark back in 2011 but it was registered in 2013. Trademarks usually last for 10 years from the date of registration. So why would Samsung renew it now, if the time of renewal hasn't even come? That's what exactly a Samsung official said when asked the same question. So just because Samsung didn't renew a Note trademark doesn't automatically mean the product line has been discontinued. But it also doesn't mean the Galaxy Note 22 will definitely see the light of day especially after the success of the foldable Z Fold 3 and Flip 3. Last year a Samsung official said unofficially that the discontinuation of the Note line will depend on the success of the foldable and now that the sales of foldable are more than what Samsung anticipated, it wouldn't be surprising if Samsung just forgets the existence of the Note lineup entirely. In any case, I'll keep you posted. Speaking of foldable, one of the main reasons the Z Flip 3 and Fold 3 are doing good in terms of sales is the lower prices. And with the Galaxy Z Fold 4, Samsung is aiming to push the price down even further. According to Korean media, Samsung is trying to significantly reduce the cost required to mass-produce the phone while ensuring that the current quality standards are met. The costliest component in a foldable phone today is the display, and right now, the competition in the foldable genre is pretty much negligible with Samsung controlling most of the market share. But that will change in the next year, as more and more Chinese companies will make foldable phones. Even Google will launch a foldable next year. As a result of more demand, the cost of producing a foldable display will decrease and that will show up as reduced retail prices for the Z Fold 4. The report also says that the under-display camera will make a comeback on Fold 4 but this time it will not only be less noticeable but will also take better pictures. Anyway, let me know what do you think.
