How to hide an Instagram conversation
1: As soon as you receive a direct message, you will receive an Instagram push notification. Don't tap on it.
2: Open the Instagram app and tap on the Instagram Direct icon in the top right corner.
3: Instagram live chat will load. So now no open the conversation for which you want to hide the reading receipt.
4: Turn off Wi-Fi or cellular data (disconnect completely from the Internet)
5: Now, select and open the desired conversation to read the messages and at the same time do not want to warn the sender with the receipt. You will be capable to see the messages.
6: After that, you will have to log out of your Instagram account. Don't turn on the internet or Wi-Fi yet. You need to log out of your Instagram account without a web internet connection.
7: To log out, return to the News Feed (Home) screen and tap on the profile icon at the bottom right of the screen.
8: At the bottom of your profile, tap on the cog icon (3 dots on Android) in the top right corner and select Logout.
9: Now, turn on Wi-Fi on your smartphone and log in to your account on the Instagram app.

You can keep continuing to use Instagram Direct with other different users and still the user will not be notified that you have seen their messages. But don't open the conversation you want to hide. If you do this, the sender of the message will acquire a seen receipt

When you switch to a professional account, you will have access to an inbox that allows you to manage messages and control notifications. This prepared inbox has 2 tabs: Primary and General.
Primary: The Primary tab is for the messages you need to view first.
All messages will appear in the Primary tab, but you can swipe them in the General tab. Notifications for unread messages are turned on for the primary tab, but you can turn them off in settings.
General: The General tab is for messages you want to retrieve later. Notifications for unread messages are closed for general tabs, but you can turn them on in Settings.

You can also view message requests in your inbox. Requests are direct messages from accounts you do not follow. You can choose to accept or reject these requests, and request messages are not marked as "viewed" unless you accept them.
